Parts of southern Queensland face days of high fire danger as strong winds, high temperatures and dry conditions have converged to create extreme risk. ire bans are in place across 11 southern Queensland council areas, including Ipswich, Logan, Toowoomba, Maranoa, Balonne, Scenic Rim, Somerset, Southern Downs, Western Downs, Lockyer Valley and Goondiwindi.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Acting Assistant Commissioner Jason Lawler said the bans would be in place until at least 11:59pm on October 17.

"Fires in these conditions can spread very, very quickly," he said.

"We ask everyone to be sensible and adhere to these conditions."

There are multiple fires burning across the state, the most serious being at Wutul and East Cooyar, north of Toowoomba - and in the fire ban area.
