Accidents between trains, drivers, pedestrians and cyclists at level crossings have resulted in numerous deaths and injuries over the years, yet no level crossing has been removed in Brisbane since 2014.

In February, a young woman was killed attempting to navigate the Lindum level crossing on Brisbane's bayside when she turned into the path of an oncoming train, despite the boom gates being down and lights flashing.
